He does seem cold, but you made the point is also very loyal to people who've been good to him. Law and tea with Putin increasingly as time has gone on has become a one-way street. In a way, that's not surprising because you know he is the pivot of an extremely person highly personalized regime. I don't like using words like Tsar because he doesn't really behave like a Tsar,. But he is in the position which the Tsars used to hold that he is absolutely the keystone on which everything else depends.
