How Do We Avoid Being Hypnotized?
Psychologist B.F. Skinner used a game in which two students would disagree with each other's opinions and then come back to the class. The effect of this was astounding, he says: even if the student sitting in chair A was rather inarticulate, the fact that the group said everything he said made him extremely expressive. So you see we are under this tremendous social pressure because talking with each other is our principal means of communication. And so more and more it hypnotizes us.
