Long Lived Contals Only for Min Air

In theory, you should be able to choose your flight route to avoid regions where you might form a contrail. Long lived contals only formin air which is so cold and very moist. So how does it how does it work? How does it make sense that you can fly around these areas? Really it becomes a trade off between the climate impact of the contral, which you're trying to avoid, making and the extra carbon dioxide that you would emit by flying a longer flight path to avoid making the contral.
