Amazon Web Services, or AWS, is a cloud-computing service. The company was founded by Eric Schmidt in 2007 and has been around since the early '90s. It's now one of the most popular sites on the Internet. In its early days, Amazon had to build an invite system for Gmail because there were so many people using it.
