Is There a Difference Between Southern Chinese and Han Chinese?

Modern Chinese in the north have more southern ancestry than their ancestors 4000 years ago or 5000 years ago. But modern people in southern China, most of whom are Han Chinese, have way, way more northern ancestry than their predecessors. So what's happening here? The rise of agriculture means larger populations and integration between Siberia and Southeast Asia. And so I think the asymmetry was driven predominantly by the rise of imperial China.
