The Central Purpose of the Epistle of Jude
William Perkins: The general aim and scope of this epistle is partly to declare the duty of all Christians. William Bradshaw on second Thessalonians: "To confirm and strengthen this church in the sincerity of that faith and religion wherein it was first planted" So you can see how for both these writers that analogy of the compass that always points to North is very helpful because the text of the book then becomes that needle on the compass that's always pointing towards the central theme, the central purpose of the epistle.
