She's founded two communities. The first was a community called friendship house which worked for interracial justice, mainly in Harlem. And those of you who have read the seven story mountain by Thomas Merton he describes his experiences volunteering there. She'd been a she was married to an erasure to a Russian aristocrat at a young age, and was a refugee from the Russian Revolution. So she went from this extreme kind of wealth and privilege to arriving as a refugee in Canada with absolutely nothing.
