The Contrast Between Napoleonic and Tolstoyan Education
Mr. Dyson: The Napoleonic created the modern European education system. He actually sort of educated all the children of Europe while he was alive. And his system has endured. In the U.S., we still have local control of schools, but still the system is fairly organized on Napoleonic lines with fixed standards and standards imposed by states.
