I don't think that the world, the field of AI is primarily stuck because of their rooted in inductive thought. I'm reading Deborah Mail's book which is an attempt to merge statistical theory with Popper's theories and to come up with something that's better than either of them. She's actually got an advance on critical rationalism that makes progress. My guess is that would open up really interesting new ideas. Now, would those lead to AGI? Probably not on their own, but it's probably one of the components we need.
