The Role of Phosphates in the Circular Water Economy

Ammonia is one of the key contaminants in Southern California's water supply. Researchers are looking at different technologies to extract that ammonia and deliver it to farmers. The immediate need from utilities around here is nitrogen removal because this is a regulatory impetus for them to have to remove the nitrogen putting all this energy in. There are no measures on the part of the regulators to require phosphorous removal, so there's less of a regulatory driver to fall to find an alternative.
