In the book of isaiah, there are several passages about god's wrath. The bible talks a lot about places being made into wilderness. In ancient times, in ancient times around the world, they would see nature as dangerous and uncivilized. And so when a place goes from a city to a wilderness, that means you're more protected for your life.
