The Great Matriarch of the People, Rachel Weeps for Her Children
Matthew draws attention back to the old testament. A voice was heard in rama weeping and loud lamentation. Rachel, weeping for her children. She refused to be comforted because they are no more. This is not the first time that rachel might be lurking in the back ground of matthew chapter two. In verse six there is a citation from micah, chapter five, verse two. And looking in the broader contexts of micah, chapters four and five, there are many references back to the struggle of rachel in birth with benjamin.
