The Origins of the Serpent Mound
The Israel archeologist authorities know about this place, they've done a lot of excavation work right around there. There's no reason to believe that they thought that it was anything other than just a natural feature. It makes sense from an ideological perspective that you would put Timula there because the snake in the world mythology has typically been a katonic deity and associated with death and rebirth and life. And those are some of the elements that we can tease out as we go along this evening.
