The Golden Hind

Drake's flow-tiller of six ships that crossed the Atlantic Ocean very quickly dwindled down to one, which Drake renamed the Golden Hind. The Golden Hind was in reference to the coat of arms of one of the Queen's favourites, Sir Christopher Hatton - a trusted member of the Privy Council. It may have been because Drake had chosen to try and execute Hatton's personal secretary, Thomas Dowdy, earlier in the journey. His character suggests that he is a man who works to his own flamboyant agenda, as opposed to one that may or may not have been imposed on him. He did always know that if he kept on the right side of his Queen
