Berlin - A History of Growth and Stability

War defined Berlin, especially the 30 years war which began about 1618. Thousands more were lost to typhoid, famine, plague, robber barons. By 1638 Berlin was reduced to only 845 houses. It was saved by an austere and ambitious despot in Zülleren electors.
