The Battle of Constantinople

Byzantine emperor constantine the eleventh had been approached by a man of hungarian heritage, called orban. Orban was a skilled engineer who offered the construction of a large cannon to assist him in the defence of his city. Mehmed would set up camp outside the theodocian walls and point those dozens of cannons that he did already have towards those defensive walls. It is suggested that the byzantine army numbered around seven thousand, two thousand of which were of foreign origin. These seven thousand military were responsible for protecting a population of around 50 thousand individuals. In contrast, the ottoman forces alone totaled around, if not more than 50 thousand.
