Queen Rana Volanum had one priority, to return Inmerna to the way it had been before European settlers. She was a bloodthirsty despot who slaughtered her own people and enslaved them. To England, about to welcome their own queen to the throne, she was an object of fascination. Depictions of her in Victorian sources range from bewilderment to outright racism.
