How to Create an Oral History Archive

In each locality, we worked in 10 localities across the UK. We recruited a group of volunteers, trained them in oral history and then they were the people who went to homes, community centres, hospitals and so on. And essentially, we were interested in anybody who wanted to share their story - whether they wanted to talk for two minutes or three hours. It was our volunteers at the heart of the project,. The local communities, the charities, NHS organisations who supported it. They were the gatekeepers to being able to capture all these voices. I mean, if we'd been working as an academic team alone, there's no way we would have been able to do such a fantastic collection
