Billy Roberts wrote hay joe in the late fifties and early sixties. The song was written by a 12 string guitar player from Edinburgh called lem partridge. Partridge helped roberts finish up the song, though he didn't claim credit for it. When muller heard the song she was furious but never took him to court. She later said: imagine my surprise when i heard hey joe by billy roberts. There was my tune, my cord progression, my question answer...
