Animal screams are evolutionarily conserved, so they don't vary all that much. A scream itself is when air is passed through the vocal chords with greater than usual forcemy and worcipedia says this can be performed by any creature possessing lungs, including humans. The original screams in species like frogs and rabbits probably served as a way to elude capture by a predator. And there's also suggestions in literature that screams could attract other preditors and thus thwart the efforts of the first preditor, that's the prey.
