The Closing of the American Mind

The closing of the american mind set off a radioactive buzz. Hirsch's cultural literacy described the pausity of hard information to day's high school graduates. Illiterate and semi literate Americans are condemned not only to poverty, but also to the powerlessness of incomprehension. What we don't know can hurt us. We do not lack defences of traditional education. Disquisitions abound. They offer comfort and guidance to the seeking few. Instead, i hope to direct our gaze behind us, so that we may more securely find our footing on the road ahead.
