The Middle Passage is such an evocative phrase, the laboratory conditions that are the Black experience of the Middle Passage. One can find historical evidence to examine, but one can also conjure these really evocative images of what it meant for one to be a master and another to be enslaved. Both are voided in their humanity and so meditating on that image seems like a really powerful starting point for reflection not only on race today but also on at least broader questions of humanity and theology.
