This is one of the many extraordinary tales of my polynesian ancestors. Being mix race still entails a lot of masking your own idiosoncratic identity, presenting in a unique way. The emotion and historical rse of this letter isn't just what's extraordinary, but also that these siblings were communicating in an oral language that had only been transcribed about a century prior. These letters were concrete, written evidence of our oral history, a primary source by these missionary, educated siblings.
