What Happened to the Vatican Secret Archives?

When napoleon was in control of italy, he ordered that the entire vatican secret archives be crated up and transferred to paris. After his fall from power, the french government was willing to return the archives but they didn't provide enough funding to get them safely back to rome. Some documents were stolen or misplaced or ended up for sale in bookshops. Others were lost forever. And before his death in 18 21, napoleon was reconciled with the church.
