CHAPTER

The ECB's Support for Greek Government Bonds

In 2010 the greek government ran out of money because it couldn't sell anymore once the ECB didn't want to buy them. In 2020 in Greece public debt will hit 210 percent and upwards of that so they were truly at japanese levels. That was no problem though because investors knew that if they would buy the government bonds from thegreek government now for a good price in 2020 they could always turn around and sell them to the ECB when needed. The euro is doing well but yields were also held down so government bond prices did not collapse like in 2010.
