The writer's guild is a union that mobilizes member power, Goodman says. Writers fight for their credit in the 1930s when they didn't have any control over it. There were things called residuals where writers could benefit from reuse of their work. And so now we have a board of directors which is elected. They're writers. There are leaders. I'm on the board currently.
For the first time in over 15 years, the Writers Guild of America is on strike. Your favorite shows and movies are at risk, but so is the livelihood of thousands of writers, and the future of writing as a viable career. This week, Adam is joined by fellow writers and WGA negotiating committee members Danielle Sanchez-Witzel and David A. Goodman to discuss how we got here, what's at stake, and what needs to happen to secure a sustainable life for writers everywhere.
