The Role of Regional Opioid Prescribing in Suicide Risk
Some younger adults with opioid dependence may have become more likely as the availability of prescription opioids diminished to turn to heroin, other illicit opioids that compose even greater risks of overdose. The dangers of overdose may be especially great in areas with high concentration of fentanyl contamination of the illicit opioid supply. There's substantial regional variation during the course of the study period, rates of opioid deaths spread out across the U.S.
