The End of the Ice Age
At the end of the ice age, there's a change in the composition of the plains. Sea four grasses have anti herbivory toxins and are not easily digested. Mammoth, horse, camel, they can't cope with this new landscape. One other possibility that people have suggested is to use bison as an example. But again, it's going to be hard to tell and test until we get really high resolution data.
