The Consequences of Sextus

The modes are meant to show that every belief involves a dispute where neither side has an advantage over the other. Sextus tries to get the same result by opposing the senses to the mind itself. Previous philosophers like democritus and epicurus had worried about the possibility that sensation and the mind could disagree. It's at this point that ataracia enters the pixture. We began investigating because we were bothered by the status of some belief, and wanted to discover the truth of the matter.
