The CHIPS Act and the US Chip Industry

The US this year passed the CHIPS Act, seeking to boost domestic manufacturer capacity in the United States of advanced chips. The goal here is to reduce the tax advantages that currently exist between manufacturing chips in the US versus in East Asia. TSMC is a company that is both very exposed to the US and to China. Most of TSMC's big customers today are American firms but it was only back in 2020 when the two biggest customers of TSMC were first Apple and second Huawei.
