The next phase of etherium is meant to achieve this scalability. The marriage of the proof of stake consenses later with the application layer currently on has been a huge undertaking. There are already some basic test dets and full implementations of everything that needs to happen for the merge, like theres implmintations of the consensus clients. Now, selecn, gath and nether mind are the bigger ones. And i peter slagiteledaga, dev of a gajust ti, tweeted out that like gathas basically one p r away from being ready for the merge.
