In the 18 fifties through the 18 80 so before it was a rock band, there were two competing forms of electrical currents. Direct current had to be produced at a power station and could only go like, a mile away. The main promoter of a c in theed was the inventor, george westinghouse who was also edison's nemesis and rival. But when you think about the grid that you were talking about, the was lit in manhattan, of course, there was a power station right there on pearl street. It had to be there.
