The Self Referentiality of Love
There is something self referential about this kind of blog. I do kind of like the funny person because he makes me laugh. I like the auto mechanic because he actually does fix my car. So it's kind of about myself. It doesn't mean I don't like the person, but there is something about me involved. The third case is different. There is something admirable about that person that makes me value that person. Even if it doesn't benefit me. Utility and pleasure accompany the good often. But the point is that my love for this person is not reducible to the useful utility for myself.
