Sophia Was a Steadfast Supporter of Radical Political Ideas

Sophia was given an excellent education she was tutored privately in mathematics and became fluent in several foreign languages. She also developed an interest in radical political ideas popular at the time in intellectual circles in Russia pushing for more social progress including elements of socialism communism and anarchism. Her western European colleagues very often were nervous about this and were afraid that these associations that Sophia had with radicals and revolutionaries from all over Europe would be a convenient rallying point for sexist and other conservatives when they opposed her appointment or promotion.
