How to Stop Australia's Addiction to Gambling
Manningham was at the Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly last week. Manningham put up a really hard hitting gambling motion calling for tobacco style advertising ban, federal gambling regulator and licenses for sports bed. 71% of voting delegates supported it - even though all the regional New South Wales councils like Broken Hill and Hawkesbury got up to give money to pokey's clubs. The Labour Party is ineligible for federal per vote funding if they or any of their state affiliates own and operate poker machine venues. And so I'm hoping that we can get the only way the Labour Party can get out of pokey's is if they do a motion at their national conference in August.
