wellrober rowises the haunting, which is certainly one of the great loke horror films, only has one jump scare. It scares through what i refer to subtly, because the sid of the book as a sense of dread. The things that we think of as safe and secure and impenetrable are suddenly penetrated. When our homes are intruded upon, when our safe or sacred spaces are invaded, it creates that deep, chilling sense of unease. That's why children have often been used as horror subjects? Because yo'r most innocent, the things that we struggle to protect all the time? Yes, it's exactly true.
