The Difficulty of Finding Early Settlements in Jerusalem
Archaeologists are trying to locate building structures from the earliest periods in Jerusalem's history. This is true for any city that has been occupied continuously for thousands of years, such as Rome or Athens. The difficulty is complicated by the natural topography of the city - it's rocky and a hard rock. So all of that makes it very difficult to find remains of the earliest settlement. And so this is part of the reason why you have a lot of disagreements among archaeologists about the extent of the earliestettlement in Jerusalem.
