The Vigilance Committee
In 1880, James Donley and his family were accused of arson. A Vigilance Committee was set up to tamping out any crime in the neighborhood. The committee's job was one of two things: drive them out of the county or kill them. When that didn't happen, a fellow named James Carroll became a constable. He made it his business to do nothing but arrest Donleys on charges going back to when they used to run the coach line.
