The gut issue is probably deeply connected to hemoglobin levels and like overall delivery of oxygen to the muscles in ways that is even more complicated than just iron. All of these things essentially are proxies for how do you create an adaptation context that is helpful, even if this number doesn't change. And usually when that's able to be figured out, they get healthier.
