The Battle of Shiloh
Jake Nguyen is the Director of Interpretation at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. He says rifled muskets are more deadly than smooth-bore ones used earlier in the war. The new guns have bullets that actually flatten out when they strike something, making for more damage. It's a battle that will see over 23,000 casualties. During the heaviest fighting, thousands of soldiers are shot in just a few hours.
