The Canadian System of Assistive Death
In Canada, 98% or some enormously high number percentage of people taking assisted dying actually have a doctor do it. The way the Canadian system works is that you need two doctors to approve a death. So frankly, anybody who can get a doctor or two doctors to agree that they are an unbearable suffering can get an assisted death. And we're talking about people with conditions which are completely manageable with medicines. That may be the quote, unquote, wrong people were going through this process. It's not possible to draw a line around the people that my mum would like to be concerned about - those at the end of their lives.
