The Australian Accent and Australian English
Australia is a word with four syllables. People from the country of Australia pronounce it in one syllable. As long as I don't speak French to them, then no one understands. It's interesting because Australia, they say, strayer, like you said, two syllables. Sometimes it's even one, strayer. Strayer. But Australian, which is an extra syllable, goes down to one.
