The Role of Dogs in Human Dog Interaction

In the last few years, research with dogs has shown us that they're much better than understanding human communicative signals. And obviously, they care about humans, much more than the shampoo cares about a human too. So looking back at the animal language studies, we were trying to train great apes because of their closest proximity to us from an evolutionary point of view. On the other hand, dogs are living in the household. We know they understand humans better than chimps and we know that they pay attention to human signals more than chimps. But as a starting point, these pieces might actually be better positioned to care enough to learn a system to communicate with humans.
