The Transport of the Giant in Florence
The city devised a plan to move the statue of David a half a mile from its workshop. The scaffold was rolled slowly on greased logs, and it took four days and 40 men to move him. It became apparent that there was no way they would be able to lift the statue all the way up to the domos buttress. So instead what they did is put David on a pedestal in Florence's public square outside the Palazzo de Signoria.
