The Impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act on the United States

The Chinese Exclusion Act was enacted for many, many reasons. It was stoked by things like fear, racism, anti-Chinese animosity and economic insecurity. People in China have been organizing for decades for women's suffrage. So the fact that there was movement when it came to suffrage and enfranchisement for people in China who were supposed to be this quote unquote lesser version of people was something that didn't look so great to a lot of white Americans.
