The Crisis of Authority in the French Republic
De Gaulle loathed the Fourth Republic and he loathed the Third Republic. He felt that this was necessary to keep order in France, to keep a grip on it. It's what we came to think of for the Italian-style politics of revolving De Gaulle governments which presided over an extraordinary boom in the French economy. Macron used some of the extreme powers given to the presidency by De Gaulle in that period 58 to 62.
