Mary is sent to live with her long lost uncle, Archibald Craven. He resides in a massive mansion called Missalthwaite Manor in Yorkshire. His wife died 10 years ago and since then he's been a recluse. Mary doesn't even meet him when she arrives at the manor. The house has over 100 rooms, most of which are locked shut.
