Rome's Early Days
Rome continued to grow and grow through the early Iron Age. The settlement expanded from its original centers on the Capitoline and Palatine Hills east toward the Esqueline Hill and north toward the Quirinal Hill. People at this time rarely buried their dead within the actual settlement. They instead tended to create distinct cemeteries just beyond the edges of the inhabited area but still quite close to their homes.
