Aretha's First Big Hit
I found it really interesting that this song was her first big smash hit because I don't think I've ever heard it before either. But as we've established, there's a lot I don't know about soul music in general and Aretha in particular. So that's not indicative of anything. And even if she didn't write the song herself, I imagine her personal experience probably contributed to her vocal performance. Oh, you can tell us a lot of realness in this vocal. Yeah. She means what she's saying. It's a very sincere vocal take, which is a big part of why I like it so much.
