Rails and the Fastest Rails Test Suites

Early on in Ruby development it was expensive to run a single empty test that just did nothing no assertions. And so then that kind of led into like the fast test sort of yeah movement or whatever. Do you think that that was a net positive or negative for rails? I'd be curious.
